Indeed, for iOS, there is 2 problems 1/ developers are now allowed to use the private API that control the system text-to-speech (if they did it, the app is rejected) 2/ third-party TTS providers cannot add their tts as system voices. It should of course be better for everybody if iOS was open for third-party TTS, as we do in OS X, with our Infovox iVox TTS product and on Android. However, as you know, we have hundreds of applications using our TTS in iOS, by using our sdk: Anyways, thanks for the update. Looking forward to the new voices (are we. Steve Nutt Hi Jean-Michel, I see the crashes when long chunks of text are read are still not fixed.
Easiest way to find this one out is download the Plume for Twitter, install it, then go into More Options, Settings, and listen to Talkback reading out Plume's changes. While it does it, the phone completely stops responding until speech is finished. In other words, Acapela voices are choking the phone. Once it finishes any touches to the phone are buffered. This also happens in log Emails and texts.

Currently, we don't receive any notification from talkback telling us to stop the speech. So, maybe this is in our implementation, maybe not, but we are of course checking that point. Steve Nutt Hi, Even more so since you can even crash Acapela just by reading notifications if you have a lot of them. It is pretty unstable at this point. Very responsive, but not stable enough for daily use. I think it doesn't clear its buffer enough when it gets long text and seems to hang up the phone until it's finished.
I wish I could help further with this, as they are great voices, but not so nice to live with on a daily basis while they are doing this. When I open the notifications area acapela starts reading everything in the notification window and you cannot stop it, also using the power button. That does not append if you revert back to the google tts. We will test it. Maybe this is related to the same strange behavior we have sometimes with talkback that seems blocked and doesn't tell us to stop. We are trying to solve that in collaboration with Google (still don't know if the problem is in tb or into our implementation).

There is currently no way to have system wide voices on iOS, unlike Android, OSX or Windows. PS: You will love the old Max also, that will be added soon.
